Hello and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea for a mid December Old Country Roses Christmas Tea...
I am posting this week and next on Sunday because of Christmas!
The air has cleared, we have had a few normal showers and it is cold...sounds like December around here!
First of All...my antique Christmas postcard for December 17th...I have been sharing one every day, and will continue until Christmas Day!
A wonderfyl 1902 Embossed German postcard....
My Old Country Roses Christmas tea in the sunroom...and my camera doesn't handle the clouds well and overcompensates! Oh well....
I recently acquired a 71 piece service for 12 with extra pieces. For those of you who don't know, although I can't imagine that any of my teacup friends won't, this is Royal Albert Old Country Roses....I already have some, so some will be available on Antiques And Teacups...
Royal Albert Old Country Roses began life in 1962 and is the single most popular china pattern in the world. Until 1992 it was made in the UK, but after that, as Royal Albert was acquired by subsequent owners, the production was moved to fist Indonesia and then Thailand. There is some rumors that some prouction may come back, but all the original potteries are gons, so...I don't know...The marks can tell you where and when it was made, but it's a bit tricky. I'll do another post on that soon.
We got our annual box of British goodies from BritishFoodShop.com
for Christmas, including these frosted mince pies from Mr. Kipling. Almost as good as home made!
And I addedd some old postcards and gift cards...you know I love those!
This gift card says:

may Friendship grow
This postcard from 1910 says:
Best wishes for Christmas
and all happiness
for the coming year
Sounds like a perfect sentiment to me!
This 1907 postcard has the short and sweet greeting of:
Christmas Greetings
with a snow scene....
And this postcard from 1905 is a mix of styles...an illuminated manuscript with a Renaissance Madonna and Christ Child and art nouveau roses. It says:
May the spirit of this day
live within your heart alway
And that is my hope for you as well!

ReplyDeleteRuth, I couldn't resist putting up a link with Old Country Roses. I don't have service for 12; just teapot, milk and sugar, 4 cups and saucers. Love it! And I hope it isn't against the rules to add a second link, as I'd like to include my current post with the Royal Albert 'Colours' -- I have just the one cup and saucer.

Old Country Rose has never been a favourite of mine. My Mum has American Beauty and I prefer a mixture of china cups and saucers with blue and white being the favourite.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that the colours in the current Old Country Roses aren't quite "right" if you know what I mean.
I love Old Country Roses dishes and the history. I don't own any, maybe one day. I didn't realize they were the most popular. They are so beautiful. Thanks for hosting this lovely party. Merry Christmas.
