Tuesday Cuppa Tea, Sorta Shabby French Tea, Lemon Glazed Cake

Hello and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea. It is quite warm today...supposed to be 90 in Seattle and 80s here in Sequim tomorrow...we aren't used to that!

As some of you guessed...you know who you are...we just got back from our annual trip to Alaska, so things have been a bit hectic with unpacking, laundry and processing and shipping orders from while we were gone...so my tea this week is simple...sort of a shabby French, but the china etc is English....because that's what I love best! But I found 2 souvenirs of my month long stay in Paris with my aunt many years ago and besides unpacking have been indulging in a lot of nostalgia....

You can see the spelter Eiffel Tower and Arch d Triomphe models that I brought home...it had to be something small, as we collected souvenirs from 20 countries all over Europe and Eastern Europe over 8 months...so small was the word!

I am using my favorites...a Shelley Sheraton pattern on a Gainsborough shape, and my Royal Homes Of Britain transferware trio...both of which I also have others on my website Antiques And Teacups.

And because I felt like a bit of bling, I added some sterling silver I had just been photographing for the shop...a condiment set from the 1940s, all with cobalt blue glass linings, and some sterling silver coffee spoons...which are small than teaspoons.

Besides doing laundry, I had to bake something, so made a Lemon Glazed cake from a 1978 Cookery For 1 Or @ cookbook which has a lot of great recipes we have become attached to over the years...

Here is the recipe...

Lemon Glazed Cake

cake:
1/2 cup sifted flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup butter at room temperature
1/2 fine granulated sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
1/4 cup sour cream....(I used Tofutti Sour Cream substitute)

Lemon Glaze:
1 tbs butter
1/2 cup fine granulated sugar
2 tbs lemon juice
1/2 to 1 tsp grated lemon peel

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Line a loaf pan with waxed paper...(although I used a heavily greased small tube ring for mine).

Sift together flour salt and baking soda. Set aside.

Beat butter in a medium bowl until creamy. Add sugar Beat until light. Add vanilla and egg, beating until smooth. Stir in half the flour to moisten. Beat until smooth. Add the sour cream. Beat until smooth. Add the remaining flour mixture and beat until smooth.

Spread into pan and bake 30 to 35 minutes until edges separate and top springs back when lightly pressed.

While cake is baking, prepare glaze:
Combine butter, sugar, lemon juice  and lemon peel in saucepan. Simmer and stir until sugar is dissolved and mixture is syrupy. Keep warm.

Pierce hot cake with holes using a fork at 1/2 inch intervals. Slowly drizzle glaze over cake. Serve warm or cool. Makes 3-4 servings.

There you go! And we enjoyed it! Pretty much staying in this weekend and staying cool.

Next week, I 'll have another Royal post because it's the official national  celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday with lots going on!

I want to also give a big thank you to Margie, of  Tea In The Valley blog, who didn't just thank me for the Right Royal Giveaway package she won on my recent blog giveaway, but sent a goodies pack also! A gorgeous tea themed thank you card, tea themed note cards and a wonderful array of teas...none of which I have ever had before! So exciting! We had the Maple Green tea today and it was delicious! Your Shelley is one of the prettiest out there, lovely pics. And I just got back from the doctor and read one of those gossip mags and the first part was pics of the Queen's birthday - so special! She is something else! : - )
