Tuesday Cuppa Tea, Gifts and Goodies

Hi and welcome to this week's Tuesday Cuppa Tea. It has been a wet but warmer week, with some great walking gaps in the weather. Walking is essential at the moment, as an old back injury from 10 years ago is kicking up, and walking is the best thing, and being at the computer is the worst! Have to spread the writing of the post over several hours. The iPad won't let me scroll to add photos, so...

The tea today is just a simple compilation of gits from Christmas and some recent finds for the shop, Antiques And Teacups, and a new tea.

On my sunroom tea table as usual, with one of my vintage blue and white tablecloths...this one embellished with cross stitch...I love any color as long as it's blue! Can you tell????

Ans surprise, surprise, there's a Shelley teacup! This is the Sheraton pattern in the blue colorway in the Gainsborough shape. I have had the pattern in pink, green and blue, but of course my favorite is the blue one!

The teacup was made almost the whole time from 1940 to 1966 when the pottery closed, and is in pattern 13291. I had 8 of these in the shop to start, but only have 2 left, and one is staying with me! I have a green on at the moment at Antiques and Teacups as well.

This English ironstone polychrome transferware tea caddy by Mason's, England is a recent find...I love transferware that is hand colored like this...no 2 pieces are the same....This is the Fruit Basket pattern, which came in a host of different colors....

G.M and C.J. Mason have been making transferware since 1813, but the family roots go back to the importing of china from...well, China and the Orient. He was so successful, that when retiring he opened his own pottery. The company has had various reincarnations including renaming as Mason's Ironstone in 1969, then becoming part of the Wedgwood Group in 1973...which became WWRD and was bought last year as part of the deal with Fiscars. I don't know what will happen now....The mark on this piece dates it to the 1940s.

This is a Christmas gift teapot...can you tell they know I love blue and white??? This gorgeous mid century stream lined teapot is in the Jubilee line and is called Skytone...a perfect summer sky blue!

The mark has a code L 50 N8 which means it was made in December 1950. Homer Laughlin is an American company which closed in 2005...so sad! It started in West Virginia in 1873 and made wonderful things here in the US.  This is a large, 6-8 cup teapot. I love it!

And, as I type, I am drinking another cup of a new tea I received for Christmas...made by Republic Of Tea in their Cuppa Cake Tea line called Caramel Vanilla which is aptly named. If you don't like sweet teas, or dessert teas, you might not like it...but I think it's delicious! There are 50  round teabags in the cylinder canister. Yummm!  I hope you are enjoying some new teas as well...it's always fun to try them...although I still drink a lot of plain old English black tea. PG Tips is the go to as I can find it around here...American black tea...most anyway....just aren't strong and flavorful for this Brit household!

Just want to remember Dr. Martin Luther King as tomorrow is the day honoring him. We share his dream.

Below is the list of some of the blog parties I will be part of and there is the linky for your tea related posts...please remember that it is SSSLLLOOOOOOWWWW but if you are patient...it's there! And I love to read your comments, and can find you to visit!

  1. Good morning, Ruth! I love your pretty blue and white tablecloth with the cross stitch in the middle...swoon!! Your Shelley teacup is so pretty and goes so well with your new teapot. The caramel vanilla tea sounds delicious. I have a Downton Abbey tea, named Mrs, Patmore's Pudding Tea, that is caramel vanilla, and I do like it very much.
    Thanks for hosting!

Your Sheraton is beautiful and yes, so are all your blues! The Caramel Vanilla tea sounds lovely. Sorry about your back and I hope it heals up soon. I know all about back pain. Dr. King was a great man and worthy to be celebrated. Have a wonderful day.

  7. Your Skytone teapot is a beauty, Ruth! I also have a sweet tooth so your Caramel Vanilla tea is right up my alley. It's too bad that The Republic of Tea is hard to find north of the border. Thanks for hosting and have a great week!

  8. Hi Ruth,
All of your blue teaware is so beautiful. I have the Shelley Sheraton demitasse teacups in pink and green but not blue. They were given to me by my great aunt. Your new teapot is just gorgeous. Hard to tell if it's brand new or vintage. Such a sleek classic design. Thanks for letting us know about the Caramel Vanilla tea. Like you I mostly drink the strong British and Irish black teas, but lately I've been craving something sweet at night. I'll have to see if our World Market carries this particular tea.
    Thanks for hosting!
