Welcome to a St. Patrick's Day post of Tuesday Cuppa Tea! First of all...see my new header? I had a friend, Debbi of Cottage Rose Graphics make it for me. I love it! I have also put it on my Facebook page at Antiques And Teacups and here is my new Tuesday Cuppa Tea blog meme button:
Then we have the later version of Shamrock in the Dainty shape, made between 1940 and 1966 when the pottery closed. Same pattern, different era and shape. But still so Irish! Available at Antiques And Teacups.
And lastly a Shelley landscape design called Old Ireland that was made for the Canadian market. This teacup is in the Cambridge shape and was made 1940-1966. From my archives. Shelley does so many wonderful teacups!
This month's Tea Time magazine had this lovely photo of a Belleek, Ireland teaset. I don't have that, but I do have a Belleek Shamrock creamer, sugar and...an eggcup!
This is the time of year I always remember Ireland. I was last there a couple of years ago but in early May. And, being Dublin...we had to visit the home of my husband's favorite beverage....
The Guinness Storehouse, as it's called, is a big tourist attraction as well as a working brewery and pub. I am not a beer drinker, let alone a stout drinker, so can't stand it. But my husband was raised with it...I do not say that inadvisedly, as Guinness was touted as pretty well a cure for anything, and even suggested for children. As my husband was an asthmatic, sickly child, he was given it as a child. This was an ad board from the time...
Amazing now...but then Coca Cola with the original cocaine ingredient was touted as that as well...as well as radium laced water and medications at one time, so...no surprise..But I digress...when he went to Guinness, I did what any red blooded American woman in Dublin would do...head to Grafton Street and go shopping!
Brown Thomas is a department store with a wonderful tea room...but I didn't think to take photos...and no selfies! I guess I was way beyond the times...to confess, can't get into selfies today either!
I found I had a little Irish cookbook...
This is A Little Irish Cookbook by John Murphy and here is the illustration by Karen Bailey of the Irish scones...
I made them, but made the in wedges which is our favorite...
Here is the simple recipe:
2 cups self raising flour
3 tbs butter
1/2 cup milk...I use almond milk
pink of salt and I added 2 tbs of dried currants
Sieve the flour into a bowl and rub in the butter quickly and lightly with the fingertips. Add the salt and then using a round bladed knife, mix in the milk a little at a time. With floured hands knead lightly to a soft dough, adding a bit more milk if necessary. Roll out evenly to about 1 finger thick on a floured board. Cut out and cook on a greased cookie sheet close to the top of a pre-heated oven at 425 degrees for 12-15 minutes. They are best eaten for tea and do not store well.
I also tried my hand at cupcake decorating. A friend was coming for tea, and I had seen something like this so I got brave and tried. There are little shamrock shaped sprinkles on to of the icing I piped on in 2 colors on a yellow cake base. I was so proud of myself! They didn't go stale, so I guess that they passed the test!
I just realized lots of things got left off this post...didn't save and publish...including a blog list and an invitation to visit Sandi for her tea....
My apologies...and I think it's fixed now!
So here's wishing you a Happy St. Patrick's Day, because today...everyone's Irish!
My teacup today is really three Shelley Irish themed ones...
An early Shelley from the Late Foley period, meaning they were producing at their Foley pottery (Foley is a district of Stoke-on-trent) between 1908 and 1916. The pattern is of course, Shamrock, and it is in the Bute shape. This is from my archives.

Loving your new header and button !!! and you have shared some real lovelies with us today. Your scones and cupcakes look tres yummy and perfect for savoring with a cup of tea. I'm with my friend - I would have gone shopping too!!!! Happy Tea Time... Hugs c. (HHL)
ReplyDeleteDear Ruth,
ReplyDeleteYour cupcakes came out perfect looking (and tasting apparently).
I love those teacups. I have the middle one which was my mother's. I sure do love that last one. It is always fun to see what you put up here!
Yes, I love your new header too.
Slainte! Ruthie
Ruth your new header is so pretty! Well done. I enjoyed seeing all your Irish related teacups and dishes. Belleek is such a pretty pattern - something about the cream colour and green together that draws me. Happy St. Patrick's Day to you.
ReplyDeleteHello Ruth,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely header! Your Irish themed teacups and goodies are wonderful! The cuppies look delightful and perfect for the day. Thanks for sharing. I looked for your link up but don't see it. Happy St. Patricks Day, my friend!
Blessings,
Sandi
Hi Ruth, your teacups are so beautiful. I especially love the Shelley shamrock rock one... sigh!!! Your scones look so good and your cupcakes turned out beautiful!! Thank you for hosting and Happy St. Patrick's Day.
ReplyDeleteLovely, Ruth!
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing the Irish FuN with us for #StPatricksDay
also my theme for the Party!
kettle's always on... welcome
The shamrock teacups are pretty but I like the bute shape best with the curves that make it look feminine. The scones and cupcakes look delicious. I don't do selfies either Ruth but you never know, I might give it a try when I'm in Ireland this summer.
ReplyDeleteRuth, your new header is wonderful! Thanks for sharing the Shelley teacups, I especially liked "Old Ireland." Thanks also for sharing your pictures of Dublin, they were fun to scroll through. And your cupcakes were too cute! Thanks for hosting the tea party :).
ReplyDeleteWow Ka-ZOW! LOVE what you're doing to re-fit and face-lift your blog! I did the same thing this month - in honor of my Blogoversary, but also feeling the spring spirit of "new life" - even in blog design and scope!
ReplyDeleteI do love your Shelley cups - the second one is in the pattern I like best of them. The pastel shades of the handles seem to capture me. Your trip to Ireland makes me Green with jealousy - well, at least wishing I could go sometime, too. A group of the single ladies at church are going the end of this month. I shall live vicariously through them!
Looking forward to you finishing up your side-bars and such for the final new blog look reveal. I will switch out your button on my sidebar, too.
Joy!
Kathy
Oh my the Shelley teacup set is wonderful! So much prettiness here today Ruth! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

ReplyDelete...Nancy
Perfect tea cups for a special day. Have a wonderful week. Blessings, Martha
ReplyDeleteWatching your beautiful cups has been a pleasure
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you
I would love to travel with you! You really get to all the great spots!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting!
Sherry
I especially love the Belleek tea set, but all the shamrock china you pictured is so pretty and almost jaunty.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at the "health" benefits advertised for so many things we now know to be not-so-good for a person. Yet I believe3 Guiness probably did benefit your husband, much more than so many allergy drugs today. ( I don't like or drink beer either ) Throughout history children drank wine & hard cider along with their parents and knowing what we do now, it was a healthier liquid than the water. I am glad we have clean water sources available to most of the population though because pure , clean water and lovely hot black or green tea are best of all !
Ireland is a place my husband & I'd love to visit and you give me a glimpse of it's beauty & history.
I love everything about your blog, and this post... the Irish shamrock china cups are so sweet....IM always looking for those around here, but they are very r are...the scones look fabulous and the cupcakes are gorgeous! Thanks for the very kind comments on my blog..... perhaps I will try the marmalade cake again for the party after all!
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth, I just think your shamrock tea cup is so adorable. I've not seen many in my travels and I'm thinking I'll have to keep a better eye out for them if I want to post again next year. I've added you to my links for tea party, glad to be working.
ReplyDeleteYour scones look tempting and you did a wonderful job on decorating the cupcakes for your visitors I hope they liked them.
Hi Ruth,
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late to link up this week. I really like your new header and my goodness what gorgeous Shelley teacups! How many Shelley's do you have? Such beauty in Shelley's. Happy Spring! Karen
