Tuesday Cuppa Tea For Fall, Shelley Trees On The Hill Teacup,Candy Corn, more

Hello and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

Today we are expecting an rare storm from the north and have wind warnings and warnings for tree problems and power outages so I am going to get this up a bit early...in case I can't a bit later when the brunt of the storm is expected. This graphic is from NOAA. We are just to the right of Port Angeles....

So we are hoping it somehow misses us, as most trees around here are only half shed of their leaves. BUT...speaking of falling leaves made mey choice for my Tuesday Cuppa Tea cup and saucer easy. I shared this one once before, but I love the art deco shape and wonderful fall design and colors.

The pattern is called Trees On The Hill With Leaves and is number 068 and later as 0167 which dates the teacups...as well as the shape...to 1933-1945. Shelley had well kept records and pattern books of numbers, shapes, etc so it is pretty doable to date one of their designs if you have the right reference books.

The words Ideal China also identify this particular cup and saucer as having been made for the Canadian market...either from a store order or an order from an individual in Canada. The teacup is in the Regent shape, one of Shelley's best art deco period shapes. This particular teacup is in the demitasse size, which is small er that their regular teacups. Demitasse, which literally means "little cup" is French was especially popular for after dinner coffee and liqueurs from the 1890s into the 1950s. Check out Downton Abbey, or some of the other period dramas, and you are sure to see demitasse cups in the drawing room after dinner.

For more info on the cup and saucer at Antiques And Teacups, click on the photos.

I hadn't shared some of my own fall changes...a bit late with being ill with the sinus problems....but the antique gilt mirror in the dining room has it's autumn leaf garland...

And my autumn themed cross stitch I did of the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23  on the wall of the sunroom....

My fall runner is on the buffet with the chenille pumpkin with it's fabric leaves, ceramic pinecones and a bowl of candy corn...found at our local natural food shop...which is kinda funny...made by JellyBelly.

October 30th is National Candy Corn Day. They were created in the 1880s by a man named Renninger...I wonder if he has anything to do with the famous Renninger's antique fairs???? Anyway....But the funniest was finding Candy Corn Oreos....

I just couldn't resist! Really sweet, but...pretty much a candy corn taste.

And I had tea at a friends...who served us pumpkin scones with whipped maple butter in a mini pumpkin. Isn't that cute? Perfect for fall!

And a last note...a friend sent me this from England...it's a display for Halloween at Harrods Department store in London from several years ago, which I'm sure you will all like!

So I close with 2 images from Tea Time magazine for fall....then there is the list of some of the blogs I am joining and a linky for you to link your one tea related post. I love your comments, my dear friends! And I look forward to seeing what clever things you have all been doing! Have a great week and have a cuppa with a friend!

William And Kate Christen Baby George, Official Portraits and Slideshow Link

Thanks for all the kind words, comments, emails and messages about my sinus problems. We cured them by a trip to the very west coast of the US, to the lodges of Olympic National Park from Monday to Wednesday...photos of that later.
BUT...I didn't have internet access, so returned and found out there had been a christening!!!!

The Duke & Duchess Of Cambridge, Prince William and Catherine, had their baby Prince George christened.  The official photographs are by Jason Bell. Baby George seems pretty excited....

Here is the first of 2 family portraits, also by Jason Bell...

Of course, you know who they are, but...in the rear standing left to right, Prince Philip, Charles the Prince of Wales and wife Camilla and Prince Harry. Seated are Queen Elizabeth II, Catherine and Prince William.  The christening gown is a replica of one originally designed for Queen Victoria's first daughter, and now a replica as the other is too fragile, the replica was last used in 1914.

This Jason Bell official portrait includes Catherine's paretnts, the Middletons and her brother James and sister Pippa.

The christening is pretty special, as it is the first time in generations that the reigning monarch has attended the christening of her (or his) great-grandson. There are now 3 generations of heirs to the throne, which must make her very happy...and seem quite old I bet! An historic photo!!!

For a wonderful slideshow of the christening including the many godparents and their relationships to the Royal baby on the BBC website, click on the photos and begin the wonderful slideshow!

Tuesday Cuppa Tea with Copeland Florence and Nourish

Hi there my dear blogging friends...and thanks for joining me for Tuesday Cuppa Tea!

This post is a bit late, and if it is short on text...and maybe sense, I don't know...it's because I have been out of commission for 2 days with a sinus headache due to an inversion layer we have had here in the Pacific Northwest. Foggy and still beneath a stalwart marine layer and sunny and warm up a few feet. But it traps pollution, and my sinuses have been a mess, even with extra antihistamines, etc.  It's supposed to lift today, and we are heading for the coast itself 2 miles away for the day hoping to get some relief!

My cup and saucer is a large, breakfast sized...for a headache I've been drinking LOTS of good, strong black tea the last few days, so big matters to me at the moment!

The pattern is called Florence...as in Italy...and was made by Copeland Spode, England in the 1930-1940s in creamware, which is a type of porcelain very popular with Wedgwood as well. One of my favorite potteries. I love the Renaissance design.

If you have read my blog for long, you may know we were able to have a tour of the Copeland collection/museum not far from Falmouth, England and hosted by Lord Copeland a few years ago. Gorgeous stuff!  The design is in polychrome, or many colored, transferware and is hand colored on the brown transfer. I love the pattern! For more info on the teacup at Antiques And Teacups, click on the photos.

A year ago, we had a British couple transplant here to Sequim and take over a lavender farm and restaurant nearby. They turned it into an organic, locavore restaurant called Nourish.  We went to visit a few weeks ago....

There are 2 structures on the property...an old farmhouse that was and will continue to be living quarters at the top and farm shop, dance hall and classroom on the bottom floor; and a second building with a conservatory for the restaurant and lavender farm produce with gardens between as you can see. The lavender bushes have now had their haircuts and look like button mushroom tops at the moment...ready to sleep and gear up for next year's crop...

Inside the restaurant is what I would call in industrial space...I haven't eaten at a galvanized metal tabletop before...interesting!

Appetizer was local organic farm Nash's Organic bbq pork with lavender and organic greens and flower salad...

Then mu honey had Copper River salmon...which he said was the best he's ever had....

Our friend had a quiche and salad...very good...

And I had  beet Borsht and hummus and vegetables. The plate looks funny, because the hummus isn't there...they had a dairy based and a non dairy based and put the wrong think (I'm allergic to dairy) so it had to go back for an exchange, only I forgot to photograph it when it came back! Lovely!

I had lashings of tea and, replete, we wandered around in the garden and came home very happy campers!

I hope you enjoyed visiting with me for Tuesday Cuppa Tea. Below is the linky for your tea related posts and I love your comments! I will be late in visiting back...but will when I am feeling a bit better. Have a great week!

Pink Chintz Teacup, My Grandfather's Artist Model Gertrude

Hi there and happy Thursday! I am joining Vintage Thingie Thursday with Colorado Lady, Share Your Cup Thursday with Mrs. Olson and Pink Saturday with How Sweet The Sound.  I'll start with the Pink Saturday first....a pink chintz teacup by Rosina, England from the 1950s. I just love this pattern and the pretty pink chintz. As this is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it's the color that represents that.

For more info on the teacup at Antiques And Teacups, click on the photos.

Meet Gertrude. Gertrude is the artist's model that my grandfather, a listed artist used. He painted the backgrounds for the Museum Of Natural History in San Francisco for the animal exhibits. He also did some portraits, but mostly landscapes. He painted the face in the 1920s for my aunt, his only daughter, because she played in his studio as he worked.   Gertrude was hand made in Italy in the late Victorian or Edwardian era, around 1900-1910. If you look closely you can see the wooden pegs she was assembled with.

I was an art minor at University and used Gertrude in my owl life classes and sculpture classes. Quite fun! Antique artist's models are very collectible. She has actually joined the artist's model collection of one of the buyers/designers in England for Anthropologie, so she now has lots of company.  I think that's a Vintage Thingie...don't you????

Tuesday Cuppa Tea---With Fall In The Air, Shelley Fruit Center Teacup, Happy Thanksgiving Canada!

Hello and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea here at Antiques And Teacups blog.

I'm so glad you could join me, and enjoy the coming of fall. It's been a mix of rain, clouds and sun here on the Olympic Peninsula...or, in other words normal!

First of all, I want to wish all my dear Canadian friends a Happy Thanksgiving!

Then, I am joining Sandi to join in Breast Cancer Awareness with her pink tea:

At home....it's fall, and a warming soup seemed in order...

I've got home made split pea with ham soup in the Crock Pot....and it is smelling wonderful!  All the seasonal sights and smells announce autumn...

I am sharing a Shelley  China, England teacup today in the Fruit Center pattern...it just seemed appropriate for today.

This pretty bone china cup and saucer was made in the Gainsbourough shape, which is one of my favorite of the Shelley shapes. I think it is so elegant and graceful. And I LOVE the beautiful apples and plums in the center.  The teacup was made between 1940 and 1966 when the pottery closed. The Fruit Center pattern was made on several other shapes during that time as well, and in several different colors.  Can't you almost taste the crispness of the fruit?

The pattern number is 13770, and the S16 behind the slash identifies the colorway, or color of the exterior of the cup and saucer.  For more info on the Fruit Center teacup on Antiques And Teacups, click on the photos.

This afternoon, I again had afternoon tea in the sunroom, and looked through some old Victoria magazines, as I often do.

I was fine until I got to this page with breads, tarts and cookies, and that did it! I had to bake cookies! So, after looking around for a seasonal recipe, I made pumpkin spice cookies...recipe to follow....

The recipe called for cream cheese frosting, but as I am allergic to milk products, I settled for a sprinkling of Demarara crystalline sugar. It added quite a nice and subtle crunch to the semi softness of the cookies.

Then it was back to the sunroom for a cookie and another cup of tea. I used my family Arzburg 1950s German china...I inherited a teaset that my parents brought back from a conference they attended in the late 1950s in Munich, Germany.  And the table is another family piece in the sunroom...a 1930s California Pottery tile table I rescued from the potting shed when I moved into my first apartment in 1971.  I thought the table's tiles had a fall color scheme....

Here is the recipe which is really cheating, because it is so easy. I didn't have time to do my usual from scratch, but this really turned out well...

Easy Pumpkin Spice Cookies

1 18 ounce boxed spice cake mix...I used a dairy free one I get at my local               organic farm store
1 15 ounce can (the small one) of pumpkin pie filling
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans  (optional)
1/2 cup raisins  (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
lightly grease or spray cookie sheets

In a large bowl mix cake mix and pumpkin with a fork or mixer until well blended. Mix in nuts and/or raisins if desired.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets. They don't flatten out a whole lot.

Bake for 8-12 minutes, depending on the size. They should be set and browned around the edges.

Cool on the baking sheets 5 minutes before removing to wire racks to finish cooling.

Medium sized cookies will yield about 3 dozen cookies, a few more if you added the nuts and/or raisins.

The recipe I used said frost with a mixture of cream cheese, powdered sugar and whatever flavoring desired to taste, ie lemon, pumpkin pie spice, maple, etc. But as, I mentioned I omitted that. The recipe is from a clipping that I didn't record the source for...sigh...

The best part...was how lovely the house smelled with all the wonderful spices! I do love fall!

Thanks for joining me today for Tuesday Cuppa Tea. Leave me a comment, I'd love to hear from you! This is just some of the blog parties I'll be joining. Also, look at the left side bar for many favorite blogs...they'd love a visit too!
