Hello and welcome to Tuesday Cuppa Tea! And believe it or not....ready or not...it's February! Amazing! Pleas find some of the blogs I am visiting at the bottom along with the linky for your tea related post. I LOVE Tuesdays!
I wanted to start today with something I found in Victoria magazine from Jan/Feb 2011 that I just loved. Pardon the camera work...the shiny cover gave me fits....
I love Victoria and have saved them for years. They are a wonderful inspiration and a moment of joy and loveliness for me.
I fell in love with this pearl garland and white washed straw heart wreath. And the poem accompanying it just fit my mood:

I fell in love with this pearl garland and white washed straw heart wreath. And the poem accompanying it just fit my mood:
Brew me a cup for a winter's night.
For the wind howls loud
and the furies fight;
Spice it with love and
stir it with care,
And I'll toast our
Bright eyes,
my Sweetheart fair.

It has been a mix of sun and clouds and the buds are beginning to poke up a bit. So I thought about the quickening violets under my pine trees that will soon appear, and chose this teacup for today.
This pretty violet patterned bone china cup and saucer was made between 1947-1951 by Duchess China, which was a trade name of A. T. Finney of Longton in Staffordshire England. After another partner, Duchess is now owned by Grimwades, of the famous Royal Winton Grimwades pottery association, since the late 1990s when the Tams group who had acquired the pottery and name Duchess in the 1960s had financial problems themselves. The potteries certainly have changed partners!
But the pattern and shape is so pretty, and suited to my February spring-hoping mood. The teacup is available at Antiques And Teacups. For more info, click on the photos.
I found a wonderful website called The Baking Pan with fabulous recipes for scones, tea breads and muffins. So I am sharing one called Honey Scones. I'll show mine at the bottom.
Honey Scones |
Ingredients:
Dough:
2¼ cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
2½ teaspoons baking powder
¾ teaspoon ground ginger
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter, chilled, cut into small pieces
¼ cup honey
½ cup whipping (heavy) cream
Topping:
1 tablespoon whipping (heavy) cream
2 teaspoons turbinado sugar
Directions:
Tip: Scones can be cut into any shape you desire. Use a drinking glass to make circles, or cut into squares or wedges with a knife, or use a cookie cutter for other shapes. Dip the edges of the cutter in flour to prevent the dough from sticking. Do not pat the edges of the scone down; instead leave the cuts as sharp as possible to allow the scones to rise in layers.

I substituted soy milk and vegan margarine and they turned out beautifully, and a very tasty treat for tea! So enjoy the recipe and the website.
In honor of the upcoming Valentine's Day, here is my favorite Emma Bridgewater mug. I am very fond of Emma Bridgewater, not only because I love her designs, but because it was my grandmother's name, and they are from the same area. I have always wondered if we are related. I have visited the pottery in Stoke often, but have never hit it when she was there, so I don't know.
Below is the linky for your tea related post and the list of some of the blogs I am joining/visiting. Please visit and enjoy the talented ladies. They have so much to offer! And please join me on Thursday for Thursday Tea Things and Talk, right here.

Love your violet teacup and your "Valentine" mug. Have a wonderful week, and thanks for sponsoring Tuesday Cuppa Tea.
ReplyDeleteThe teacup is gorgeous, I love the violet small flowers in it. Your Valentines mug is so cute too! Have a great week and thank you for the party, my friend.

Those scones don look wonderful - I have never made honey scones but it sounds delightful. Pretty cup and saucer!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty violet teacup and saucer. I have a small collection of china with violets so it caught my eye right off. Sighing, the older Victoria magazines were the best. I regret parting with mine. Thanks for the honey scone recipe.
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth,
ReplyDeleteYour violet tea cup and saucer is just lovely and reminds me of Spring :) And your honey scones sound wonderful! I love honey in just about everything.
Have a great day!
Hugs,
Stephanie
I like Victoria too and I always find inspiration in it. Your teacup is very pretty and the mug is so cute! Tea and scones are made for each other. Thanks for sharing and hosting. Have a beautiful day, Ruth.

Hello Ruth
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with glare when I try to photograph magazine covers, and I can proudly say I finally bought some magazine files for organizing my Victoria and Tea Time magazines.
Pretty teacup with violets and an interesting twist to make a scone recipe more interesting.
Judith
Hi Ruth,
ReplyDeleteYour violet teacup does remind me of spring and I can't wait! Your Valentine mug is sweet and I bet alot of fun to use this time of year. I'll have to try the scone recipe! Thank you for hosting your party and have a wonderful evening.

Hello Ruth! Oh boy, your post is just a delight. WHat a great website for baking- thanks for the heads up. I think I shall make these scones with cinnamon instead of ginger. They look fabulous. Have you ever used almond milk? I make substitutions all the time when cooking. The teacup is charming and the heart mug is so festive, they make me smile. I've never heard that poem-thanks for sharing! I appreciate your including my blog addy. Have a great week!

Good Morning Ruth (that is also my sister's name!)
ReplyDeleteI thought I could join in your Tuesday Cuppa Tea...I learned about you on Beth's blog.
I thought my recent tea cozy instructions might be of interest to some of the tea drinkers in the group. They are very easy to make!
I enjoyed seeing your pretty violet tea cup! Next time, I'll try to include some tea & a cup.
fondly,
Rett
I know I'll always see something pretty here, and today does not disappoint! I adore violets, but I am also a huge fan of Emma Bridgewater's wares, so I'm not sure which piece I like best!

UN BESO GRANDE DESDE ARGENTINA CON TODO MI CARIÑO.
Bless you Ruth - just love those delicate little violets on your cup. I have a couple violet patterns. They are so feminine. Also had to copy that scone recipe. I made some substitutes, too and will be making them tomorrow. We'll see how that turns out. They sound delish - and very simple. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteJoy!
Kathy
Absolutely love the poem for it does have romantic feel. The darling violets on your teacup and saucer will be perfect with a bunch of violets tied with a purple ribbon from your garden. Thanks for sharing the recipe and the new blog.
ReplyDeletePam
I love that you made these scones vegan!
ReplyDeleteThe violet teacup is so pretty and you're right, the violets are getting antsy and about to pop up. They seem to be able to withstand the harshest treatment and still show the most delicate & precious flowers.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot visiting this blog post Thank-you !
Visiting from Sandi's Home, lovely violet tea cup. So spring.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this at my HOME, Ruth. Lovely teacup!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
