Hello my friends. Are you all square eyed from Olympics viewing? We watch as much as we can, and love it. The list of blogs I am joining is at the end of the post. Besides loving the Olympics themselves, they are in London...our favorite city and home away from home. In our home, we root for the USA and GB...a divided loyalty because of heritage. For those who don't know, my husband is a Brit and I'm a first generation Yank from an English family.
I wanted to share on of my favorite cup shapes, the so called corset shape, by Aynsley, England in a gorgeous blue with an applied heavy gold lace on the interior. I LOVE it! If you have read any of my posts, you know I'm a sucker for blue...
This cup and saucer was made in the 1960s, and came in a number of colors which I have had over the years, but this blue is my favorite! Perfect for a cozy cup of tea.
Speaking of tea, one of our favorite places for tea is The Fairmont Wmpress Hotel in Victoria, BC Canada, a short ferry ride away for us, and our closest big city.
The Empress, designed by Thomas Rattenbury who also designed the House Of Parliament almost across the street from the Empress is celebrating her 15oth birthday tomorrow, on August 2nd.
This is Inner Harbour, directly across the street from The Empress. And below is a photo of the afternoon tea we had for my birthday a couple of years ago. We will be at the Empress later in the month for my birthday again.
I will have to share that visit later in the month. So...please wish the venerable and gorgeous Empress a happy birthday! Please visit the blogs below. For more info on the teacup visit Antiques And Teacups or click on the photos.
And now...back to the Olympics!

Beautiful! Unusual shape too.
ReplyDeleteTea at the Empress would be perfect right now.
ReplyDeleteI love that little tea cup. Enjoyed reading a small part of history as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful cup and what a wonderful way to celebrate your birthday! Wishing you a happy day!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous teacup. Loved learning about the shape name. I have fond memories of going to The Empress Hotel for high tea with my parents when I was a teenager. I'd love to go back with my own children and French husband how has never been. We did make it up to Vancouver and Whistler on a family road trip and we all loved had a great time. Love your photos and post! Excited to be a new follower!
ReplyDeleteRuth, your teacup is just beautiful! What a lovely shape. The Empress Hotel looks like a lovely place to tea. The treats themselves would be worthwhile visiting! Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
Oh I love the Empress! But it's been many years since I visited Victoria. Next time I am in Seattle, I should get my sisters to go with me on the ferry.
ReplyDeleteHi: What a beautiful tea cup. Aynsley are always so stunning. You have an amazing collection of tea cups. Have a great week. Blessings, Martha

Ruth... you are sharing such a lovely teacup! The blue outer colour and gold is most royal looking!!
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful to be so close to the grand dame of hotels!!! It was at the Empress that I introduced Mr. G. to afternoon tea ... and he was delighted and has become an afternoon tea lover!
Wishing you a fabulous week-end! xo HHL
I love the beautiful shade of blue. We have been watching alot of the Olympics also. Such amazing talent. I am pretty sure that is the same place my friends and I had high tea years ago when we went on a girl trip to the Tulip Festival and Butchardt Gardens. It was a gorgeous hotel. Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup. Sounds like you are going to have a fabulous birthday!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
