Hiya me lovelies and welcome to my tea themed meme Tuesday Cuppa Tea. I hope you have been enjoying the London Olympics! Awesome! Along with most folks, my favorite part of the Olympic Opening ceremony was:
I thought it was wonderful that the Queen Elizabeth II was game to do it, and apparently did it in one take. Another fun fact is that besides Daniel Craig as James Bond and 3 corgis are visible, the person that portrayed Queen Elizabeth crossing the lawn, entering and leaving the helicopter was Julie Mackenzie, known to many as Miss Marple of Masterpiece Mystery fame! That was so fun!!!! I also loved seeing such London icons as the Pearly Kings, Chelsea Pensioners and others, and was pretty disappointed that we in the US didn't get to see a dance section dedicated to the London terrorist bombing of 7/7 2005. Ah well....
I am sharing a family recipe for peas salad, so I thought...why not a green teacup! I shared this once before a year ago, but it is one of my favorites. The cup and saucer is by Royal Grafton, England from the 1950s and is just beautiful. Besides the forest or hunter green bands, there is a heavy gold embossed gold pattern overlay and a lovely rose center. I just love it! For more info on the teacup at Antiques And Teacups, click on the photos.
As it's summer (finally if you live here in the Pacific Northwest), I have hauled out one of our family's favorite family recipes that we always have during the summer, and are asked to bring to potlucks.
Pea And Pecan Salad
1 10oz pkg, or 1 1/3 cup of thawed frozen peas
2 cups finely shredded green cabbage
3 green onions thinly sliced including greens
1/2 cup sliced radishes
1/4 cup each, mayonnaise AND sour cream (I use IMO non dairy sour cream)
1 tbs white wine vinegar
1 tsp dijon mustard (I never use this, but it was in my grandmother's recipe)
1/4 tsp curry powder (this is just a taste and not overpowering if you don't like curry)
1 cup roasted pecans...split into 2 sections
In a large bowl, combine peas, cabbage and onions and set aside.
In a small bowl, blend mayo, sour cream, vinegar and spices. If made ahead, cover and chill vegetables separately up to 24 hours.
Mix vegetables and dressing and 1/2 of the pecans/ Salt to taste. Serve topped with the reserved pecans.
Makes 6 servings

I love the color green, so I love this teacup! Thanks for the pea salad recipe. My Granny made a delicious pea salad and this sounds a lot like it. I've been looking for one!! I've always heard Queen Elizabeth has a wonderful sense of humor. I bet she had as much fun with this skit as we did watching! Happy Tea Day and thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteHello Ruth
ReplyDeleteWe missed the opening ceremonies while away on holiday; how I wish I could have seen the Bond part.
Your recipe reminds me of something similar my mother used to make so I think I'll give it a try - thanks for sharing.
The teacup you chose for today is lovely.
Thanks for hosting.
Judith

Lovely! I really enjoyed the opening of the Olympics as well...especially seeing the doggies!
ReplyDeleteYour tea cup is stunning in deep green and gold! The spray of flowers is gorgeous in the cup bottom as well. I have a Grafton with the exact same spray, but different look outside. I just love this style cup, Grafton in the 50s is definitely grand!
Mmmm, your salad looks good! Thanks so much for sharing your family recipe!
Hugs,
Terri
That cup is gorgeous! and the pea salad looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteRuth: Thank you for this wonderful recipe which I am printing out! I was wondering about something Ruth - since you have this British inside track- I noticed that painting in the Dining Room in Downton Abbey - it is featured on the movie about the Royal Castles - did they "borrow it" for the movie or what?
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful teacup this week! I love the flower in the bottom of the cup. I'll be trying your recipe for pea salad. I have one I use but yours sounds better! Thank you for sharing and thank you for hosting!
Nancy
Yummy for the salad AND the teacup :) I'll have to try this recipe. I love pecans in just about anything and with 5 trees on our property I have plenty of them!
