Tuesday Cuppa Tea, Royal Grafton Green and Pea Salad!

Hiya me lovelies and welcome to my tea themed meme Tuesday Cuppa Tea. I hope you have been enjoying the London Olympics! Awesome! Along with most folks, my favorite part of the Olympic Opening ceremony was:

I thought it was wonderful that the Queen Elizabeth II was game to do it, and apparently did it in one take. Another fun fact is that besides Daniel Craig as James Bond and 3 corgis are visible, the person that portrayed Queen Elizabeth crossing the lawn, entering and leaving the helicopter was Julie Mackenzie, known to many as Miss Marple of Masterpiece Mystery fame!  That was so fun!!!! I also loved seeing such London icons as the Pearly Kings, Chelsea Pensioners and others, and was pretty disappointed that we in the US  didn't get to see a dance section dedicated to the London terrorist bombing of 7/7 2005.  Ah well....

I am sharing a family recipe for peas salad, so I thought...why not a green teacup! I shared this once before a year ago, but it is one of my favorites. The cup and saucer is by Royal Grafton, England from the 1950s and is just beautiful. Besides the forest or hunter green bands, there is a heavy gold embossed gold pattern overlay and a lovely rose center. I just love it! For more info on the teacup at Antiques And Teacups, click on the photos.

As it's summer (finally if you live here in the Pacific Northwest), I have hauled out one of our family's favorite family recipes that we always have during the summer, and are asked to bring to potlucks.

Pea And Pecan Salad

1  10oz pkg, or 1 1/3 cup of thawed frozen peas
2 cups finely shredded green cabbage
3 green onions thinly sliced including greens
1/2 cup sliced radishes

1/4 cup each, mayonnaise AND sour cream (I use IMO non dairy sour cream)
1 tbs white wine vinegar
1 tsp dijon mustard (I never use this, but it was in my grandmother's recipe)
1/4 tsp curry powder (this is just a taste and not overpowering if you don't like curry)
1 cup roasted pecans...split into 2 sections

In a large bowl, combine peas, cabbage and onions and set aside.
In a small bowl, blend mayo, sour cream, vinegar and spices. If made ahead, cover and chill vegetables separately up to 24 hours.

Mix vegetables and dressing and 1/2 of the pecans/ Salt to taste. Serve topped with the reserved pecans.
Makes 6 servings

Enjoy!

Here is the linky, and a list of some of the blogs I am joining. Have fun watching the games...we will watch as much as we can!
Cheers!

Teacup Thursday, Rosina Lilies And Metal Chickens!

Hi there. This post for Teacup Thursday, Vintage Thingie Thursday and Share Your Cup is really from the sublime to, well...let's just say the less than sublime.

My Teacup Thursday choice is this wonderful hand painted on transfer Rosina, England cup and saucer from the 1930s of lilies. I just love the pattern which was designed by A. Bentley. It is gorgeous, and such an elegant shape as well. Rosina is a favorite brand of the maker George Warrilow, who also made Queen's China. I think the teacup is so pretty! Lilies are flourishing around here at the moment.

For more info on the teacup at Antiques And Teacups, click on the photos.

Now onto something a bit less, well, elegant. There is a gardening center by our Costco here is Sequim, WA that has built itself up over the last year, and officially really opened last weekend for our Lavender Festival (for more on that, see the previous post).

The business is selling all sorts of things including greenhouses, blueberries, plants and a lot of recycled yard ornaments. The chickens and roosters are made out of old barrels, buckets and spare pieces of roofing and other sheet metal It really is a fun place to wander around in. It doesn't really have a name yet, they say they're working on that, but I just thought you might like to see what they have.

I hope you are enjoying the weather...we are having summer again today after reverting to a few rainy spring days...and I hope you can visit the following blogs I am joining:

Tuesday Cuppa Tea, Purple Occupied Japan Teacup, Lavender Festival

Helloo and welcome to my meme Tuesday Cuppa Tea! The linky to join in and some of the blogs I am joining are at the bottom of the post.

In honor of the Sequim Lavender Festival, which has just ended, here is my teacup...a purple three footed beauty from Occupied Japan:

The Occupied Japan period was from 1945-1952 when post World War II Japan was occupied and rebuilt by the allied nations. I love the color, shape and decoration. Too cool! To see more info on the cup and saucer at Antiques And Teacups, just click on the photos.

The 16th annual Sequim Lavender Festival ended today...three days of lavender farm visiting, lavender cutting, sniffing, eating and shopping with the additions of a car show, hot air balloons....and unfortunately quite a bit of rain!

On the first day we choose a lavender farm to visit, and this year we visited Jardin Du Soliel early in the morning before the crowds arrived.

Outside the gift shop at the lavender farm

25 different varieties of lavender for sale. They are grown here, and they always have some for sale
L

Some views of the wonderful lavender fields. Note the colors of different varieties.  Below, are items in the gift shop.

Earl Grey tea with lavender instead of bergamot?????

So...you can see, how much there IS to see! So many farms, crafts, food...you name it. We are not big on crowds, so tend to get in and out early.

The sun was pretty much behind a marine layer...and drizzle, and downright rain at times! But...we always look forward to it!

Here is the list of blogs and the linky. Have a great week and have a cuppa with a friend!
