Thursday Teacups And Tea Things, Sheraton and Sequim Museum

Hello and welcome to Teacup Thursday with Miss Spenser's blog and my new meme Thursday Teacups and Tea Things...an experiment! Mr. Linky is at the bottom of the post.

The teacup I have today is a Johnson Brothers, England cup and saucer in the Sheraton pattern from 1910-1920s. I love Johnson Brothers. They have so many great ironstone patterns. And so many complement each other. This is a pretty floral pattern that sort of has some fall colors.

The pattern is hand colored brown transferware which is a favorite technique of mine. It always leaves room for individuality among the artists, and no 2 pieces are ever exactly the same which adds to it's charm to me.

Last week I attended an afternoon tea fundraiser for the Sequim Museum and Art Center. The museum has just completed renovation of the old historic school house that serves as one of it's venues.

Besides internal upgrades the schoolhouse was treated to an exterior face lift and new paint job, restoring the original paint and trim to 1921 days.  Here is a neat video on the rehab on the Dungeness Schoolhouse that was posted on our local newspaper, The Sequim Gazette site. Dungeness Schoolhouse.

I just remembered to take a couple of photos at the tea. One of of our table centerpiece made from a pair of vintage silver lame heels decorated with tulle and sparkly bits.

And this is my loaded tea plate...the tea was served buffet style.

The choices included egg salad and ham salad sandwiches, spinach and mushroom mini quiches, cheddar cheese, ham and red pepper biscuits, blackberry scones, assorted fruit, double chocolate walnut brownies, heart shape shortbread cookies, chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles and lashings of tea!  There was also a fashion shoe from a local consignment shop sponsored by the Museum. Too fun!

And for a fabulous post from The Tea Maestro about another revolutionary war period Tea Party related to The Boston Tea Party, see this fab post by The Tea Maestro...who knew? A women's rebellion about tea????

  2. Hi Ruth - Well, I recognized your Johnson Bros. teacup and saucer immediately since I just had to pass by four matching dinner plates at a thrift store - out of my budget for the day selling for $10 each. This particular thrift store has a good deal of wonderful china pieces - they do estates. I agree - I find the Johnson florals charming and vintage in appeal. May need to find a place to put them - running out of room.

Your teatime looked scrumptious - loved the centerpieces.

I linked onto your new Thursday party. Hope it takes off. Thank you for hosting!

    Joy!

  4. Hi Ruth,
    Your tea cup is lovely!
Like you, I love Johnson Brothers and, you know, both my dinner service, in red and white, and the coffee set and tea set,in blue and white, the ones I use most at home, are by Johnson Brothers. I got them as wedding presents 34 years ago and they are still intact!
Mine are "coaching scenes" and "old villages", I think.
    Thanks for sharing this beauty.
    Hugs
