My Teacup Thursday with Miss Spenser choice today is a hand colored on transfer teacup by Royal Stafford, England from the 1930s that I love that we currently have at Antiques And Teacups.
The design is called Iris. It really is a lovely depiction of iris with a pretty shape and gold trim. Royal Stafford is really a favorite company of mine. The company developed from Thomas Poole and Gladstone China in the Stoke-on-Trent area of Staffordshire called the Potteries and has a great history of fine china making. The company almost went under in the 1960s, but had an infusion and continued. The pottery was taken over by Lifestyle Group in 2007, and is now one of the only potteries, albeit a small one, actually manufacturing in the UK. I found out recently that they even made some china in the last couple of years for Victoria's Secret. That's moving with the times! Good luck to them!

Tonight I had to laugh. I was watching a BBC America special on the Royal Wedding called Will & Kate: Fairytale Wedding and a commercial came on for the Graham Norton UK based comedy/talk show. He said his favorite bit of Royal Wedding memorabilia was the Knit The Royal Wedding and held up the booklet I just listed for the second time on my blog here yesterday. Made me laugh! He said he could hardly wait to knit the bride! Right.....moving right along....Have a great time visiting all the Teacup Thursday offerings. They are so much fun and you get to meet such great folks!
Very pretty china. Love the flowery pattern.

My mom loved irises, she would of wanted that tea cup!
ReplyDeleteI think Graham would rather be "knitting" the Prince!
ReplyDeleteI love the cup and that you share so much information with us. Just getting into this Teacup Thursday, I have to admit that I never paid much attention to the companies that made all of my teacups. I am learning and find this all so interesting. Something new for this old gal!
ReplyDeleteI miss participating with Spenser on Thursday but eventually ran out of teacups to feature. I love your cup and saucer! Your blog is such fun!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! Spring is perfect for this cup.
