Royal Wedding Wednesday with Decor to Adore. It's getting close...
Okay, so I know you are attending the Royal Wedding of Prince William & Kate in a few days...what to wear? I have just the thing for you, but unfortunately, it won't be auctioned until May 27,2011. Too late. Sigh....
This incredible tiara is composed of 11 Colombian emerald pear-shaped drops which total more than 500 cts. The piece is estimated to sell for $5 million to $10 million.
The tiara was commissioned circa 1900, possibly from jewelers Chaumet, by Guido Count von Henckel, First Prince von Donnersmarck, for his second wife Princess Katharina and will be sold in Geneva in Sotheby's Noble Jewels sale.
You may wonder why tiaras are topical...just now. The reason is the Queen Elizabeth II has often gifted or lent a tiara to royal brides...and she has the biggest collection around. This is a photo of the tiara she wore at her own wedding from a blog called Mandy's Royalty.org.
For photos and histories of all the Royal Wedding tiaras, I found this great resource....The Tudors.wiki with fab photo.
There is a lot of conjecture if Queen Elizabeth II will gift Kate Middleton with a tiara for her wedding with Prince William and I found the following video a great explanation of the practice:
The Royal wedding should be a fun affair. It will certainly take anyone's mind off the worlds woes for a few hours. I remember getting up at 4 A.M. to watch Di marry Charles and than taking my silly self to work a few hours later! I think Kate is a super classy woman and she will be a wonderful asset to the royals.
