Pink Saturday Tea-Time At The Masters, Rhododendron Teapot

If you have a golfer in your house as I do, you know what weekend this is...the Master's Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia...one of the most prestigious on the PGA calendar. My dear husband is a golf lover. He loves to play and he loves to watch. So, in 1996 I found this cookbook at an estate sale and picked it up immediately. Not only was it my Beloved's Masters, but it's called Tea-Time At The Masters which floats my boat being a tea lover.

Another thing the golf tournament is famous for are the beautiful azaleas and rhododendrons which are an important part of the landscaping.

This last one appealed to me...the name is Weston's Lollipop Azalea...my last name is Weston. Cool! These photos are from Wayside Gardens is 60 miles from the club is 60 miles from the gardens and has supplied them with cultivars for the landscaping.  Although they come in many colors...and mine aren't flowering yet...I chose these because they are Pink for Pink Saturday with How Sweet The Sound.

I wanted to share a recipe from the cookbook. This is page 210,

Georgia pound cake

1 pound butter
2 2/3 cup butter8 large eggs
8 tablespoons whipping cream
3 1/2 cups plain vanilla
1/2 to 1/2 teaspoon mace to taste

Cream butter. Gradually add sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Alternately add cream and flour.Add vanilla and mace. Pour into buttered and floured tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until done. Slice very thin.

I notice the recipe was obviously before nutritional analyses were popular! But I've made this for a tea party and it is lovely as part of the "cutting cake" sections. Yumm!

This is a teapot with a design of pink rhododendrons from Royal Patrician, England from 2002 before they closed in 2009. I have the design in 3 different colors at Antiques And Teacups. I love the shape because it is so different! For more info on the Rhododendron teapot, click on the photos.

Have a great weekend...we are actually sunny yesterday and today and hopefully for tomorrow as well. We took a walk to look at all the spring bulbs coming out...but had be back in time for coverage of The Masters Golf Tournament!  The sun is very welcome. The official statistics say our rainfall is 268 times normal...that's a La Nina year for you here in the Pacific Northwest!   Don't forget to get a cup of tea and visit everyone at Pink Saturday!

  1. I've never been to the Masters, but I have watched on TV. And it is gloriously pretty. What a great find with the cookbook, and I love your teapot. Perfect for celebrating the Masters.

    Happy Pink Saturday to you...

  3. I lived in Augusta years ago, and in fact, my son was born there. We always went to the Masters each time. Years later, I found two different editions of that cookbook at estate sales, and they do have some very good old Southern recipes in them.

Thanks for stopping by my blog -- it's nice to make new blog friends! We'll visit again.

  5. We watched the Masters today too although I was looking more at the azaleas and dogwoods and the birds tweeting and singing in the background at that gorgeous course. We have a ton of pines trees like that golf course does and I saw that they did a lot of landscaping with the pine needles so we are going to do that too next weekend. (see I told you I was looking at everything but the actual play of the ball. ...LOL
