ST.DAVID'S DAY March 1st
March 1st is the Welsh national holiday of St. David's Day. Saint David, or Dewi Sant, as he is known in the Welsh language, is the patron saint of Wales. He was a Celtic monk, abbot and bishop, who lived in the sixth century. During his life, he was the archbishop of Wales, and he was one of many early saints who helped to spread Christianity among the pagan Celtic tribes of western Britain. The day is celebrated with Welsh national dress, anEisteddfod which is a competitive singing, dancing and reciting festival in the Welsh language, of course, and daffodils everywhere. Leek soup is a favorite dish and it is a day for all ages.

Royal Winton Grimwades is a very collectible and popular pottery that was founded by the Grimwade brothers at the Winton pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England in 1885. They are perhaps most famous for their chintz patterns, but the made a wide range of items including toilets, baking dishes, commemoratives and dishes for the table in cottage ware, luster, wonderful and innovative art deco designs and lots of goodies. I really love their work. After difficulties in the 1960s, they went through several owners and a renaissance in the early 1990s with the reissue of their iconic chintz designs.
This cup and saucer is from their souvenir transfer lines and was made in the 1930-1940s. The fun scenes are always a joy.
