The subtitle for the issue was Bringing the inside in...and I am sure anyone that has gathered a spring bouquet of daffodils, violets or other fragrant spring flower has experienced that. Just outside my front door, a tub of daphne, one of the most fragrant early shrubs, is just putting forth it's purple tipped flower buds. The flowers arrive at the same time the leaves open and the fragrance is intoxicating!
The magazine featured photos of Blantyre Estate in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts that was built like the owner's mother's Scottish estate. The photos are marvelous. I especially liked the open porch seating and the gorgeous blue Spode china and flowers on the dining table.
Lastly, the Favorite Things section is , as always, a favorite of mine. I love to see what they have found to tempt us with. I loved the chartreuse bird house and the stone birds. I am going to see if they are still available somewhere. I have a sunroom that is decorated with a bird and birdhouse theme and these would be perfect. Don't know how I missed them back then...but then I remember that 2009 was my "annus horribilis" as Queen Elizabeth II called a difficult year...when my husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and was so ill from the medications I thought I would lose him. The meds are stabilized and after that dark year am thankful to have him and our life back!
On the birds theme, this is a favorite cup and saucer with a birds and bird nest design by Vicotia, England made in the 1920-1930s from stock at Antiques And Teacups. The birds are so cute! For more info, click on the photos.
I will be back later for more for Teacup Tuesday. Just going to finish my cup of tea...a bit delayed after a wonderful phone conversation with my daughter. :)
I have enjoyed this post.As being fond of Antiques I always search these kind of things for having unique look of my house.
