Hand Painted Hollycock English Bone China Cup And Saucer

From the sold archives of Antiques And Teacups
I just love hand painted cup and saucer designs. The period in England in the 1930-1940s was a terrific time for hand painted designs. The cup and saucer I have used today is a lovely hollyhock design with a road and fence on the saucer as well. Cups and saucers were an important part of everyday social life and how you served your guests or family at tea time sometimes even set your social status.

Hand painted china designs were very popular in the 1930-1940s era because of the prevailing move away from formalism and embrace of more freedom in design. So hand painted china was an expression of the freedom echoed in dress and social interactions.

I love this design and LOVE to take tea. I am thrilled at the resurgence of courses being offered in tea ettiquette, and tea parties being revived as a relaxed way to spend time with friends.

Carry on...and pas the scones please!

Friar Tuck Goebel Cream Jug West Germany Cross Eyes

From the sold archives at Antiques And Teacups
Is this the cutest guy, or what! This little Friar Tuck or Brown Monk cream, creamer or milk jug was made by Hummel, Goebel of Germany 1950-1956. The Friar Tuck series of ceramic cuties was immensly popular and still very collectible. The monks were made as pitchers, jugs, salt and peppers, cookie jars, covered pots etc. And all were hand painted. Obviously, some of the artists had a sense of humor because periodically you find one with crossed eyes. SOOO CUTE! For more about this little guy visit the listing at Antiques And Teacups.

I hope you had a lovely Valentine's Day. Ours was fun. Today is our 36th anniversary. Cool! Out to dinner and a celebration!

We're supposed to have gorgeous weather for the next 3 days...warm and sunny. I love to get out walking the spring & see what bulbs and plants are popping up. My Daphne even has a fragrant cluster of blossoms already.

Have a great day and don't forget a cup of tea is relaxing and full of antioxidants.

Although this cute little guy sold, we have others available at Antiques And Teacups.

English Silver Teapot Spout Tea Leaf Strainer

From the archives at Antiques And Teacups.

Not seen often, and delifitely worth noting!

This is a silver plated English basket teapot spout tea leaf strainer from the late victorian era, 1870-1890. The basket has 2 prongs which fit into the pout of the teapot. When you go to pour the tea...tea leaves, of course, this was before tea bags...the basket pivots under the spout and you pour the tea through it into the cup. Voila! Tea with out loose tea leaves. Cool!

I don't find these often and am thrilled when I do. I just LOVE the victorian inventiveness and their love for specialized gadgets!
You can see more photos and get more information at Antiques And Teacups.

We have had fabulous weather here on the Olympic Peninsula and the Pacific Northwest the last few days. VERY spring like weather in the 50-60s. Lovely! Went for walks both days and saw blooming primroses and leaves beginning to break out on the trees. Have a lot of empathy for the mid Atlantic states with their big blizzards. We used to live in snow country and I don't miss the shoveling & snowblowing AT ALL!

Have a great Sunday tomorrow...Super Bowl time! And the Olympics starting in a week. WooHoo!!! Just by our back door!
